LGV & HGV Training – Getting Started

The process of getting started includes the following:

1.) Medical

We arrange your medical for you, using a local doctor. The medical will take approximately half an hour, during which the doctor will complete a D4 form. Tees Valley Driver Training have an agreement in place with a local doctor who will conduct your medical as a priority. This is also a lot cheaper than using your own GP, who charge upto £120! The medical is straight forward and consists of an eye test, blood pressure checks and questions about your general health.

Further information can be found here. If you have any concerns regarding your medical please speak to us.

2.) Provisional Licence Application

As soon as you have successfully completed your medical you are in a position to send away for your provisional licence. Tees Valley Driver Training can provide you with the D2 form. The D2 needs to be completed and sent to the DVSA along with the D4 medical form completed by the Doctor. We will assist you to complete the D2 form and will check the form free of charge if needed. Your provisional licence can take upto 3 weeks to arrive.

3.) Study for Theory Tests

Tees Valley Driver Training have obtained the use of Driver Theory 4 All, an online resource that allows users access to a range of online training programmes to allow customers to prepare for the theory and hazard perception tests. Please contact us for further details.

Alternatively we can advise on which books to study from, we also have a small stock of books that we are happy to loan to people.

4.) Theory Test, Hazard Perception (Module 1) & Initial CPC Theory Test (Module 2)

Most training companies will not book your theory tests until you have your provisional licence in your hand. When a theory test is booked, there is a waiting time of 3-4 weeks, between booking your test and actually taking your tests. Tees Valley Driver Training are registered as a business with the DVSA. We pre-book your theory tests for a time 3-4 weeks after your medical, reducing the time it takes for you to obtain your licence and start working.

We will also, wherever possible book all 3 tests for the same day, meaning you are not running backwards and forwards to the test centre. We will also look at alternative locations (if you are happy to travel) to get your tests completed as soon as possible.

You are now ready to begin driving!
